Steve McDonald

Steve McDonald spent more than two decades as a software engineer — building systems, solving hard problems, and thinking in logic. Today he's still doing all of that, now also as the technical co-founder and engineer behind his own mobile and web apps. But somewhere along the way, a different kind of calling took shape. In 2022 he stepped in front of a camera, opened his Bible, and uploaded his first message to YouTube. No production team. No grand plan. Just a conviction that the same clarity he applied to code could help people find their footing in faith.

That instinct became the 100 Steps With God book series — practical, Scripture-grounded companions designed the way a good engineer designs software: step-by-step, tested against real life, and built for people who want something that actually works. Each volume breaks spiritual growth into actionable steps, making the journey feel less overwhelming and more like something you can genuinely do.

Beyond the books, Steve is deeply involved in the day-to-day work of his ministry. Through weekly messages, a regular podcast, and a growing online community, he brings the same precision he brings to engineering — breaking down complex biblical concepts into plain language that holds up on a Monday morning.

His topics — overcoming doubt, walking boldly with God, finding faith in the middle of an ordinary week — are taught with the honesty of someone who's been in the weeds of both a technical career and a spiritual one. The result is a welcoming, judgment-free space where people from all walks of life can explore their faith without pretense.

Steve's Walking in Step with God ministry is a registered 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping individuals connect with God in a way that transcends labels or religious boundaries. Faith, in Steve's view, should be personal, transformative, and inclusive — a space where everyone, regardless of where they are on their spiritual path, feels supported and encouraged.

He is also the founder of Bridge of Kindness, a companion 501(c)(3) nonprofit built on three words: Compassion. Contribution. Community. Through targeted quarterly missions, Bridge of Kindness connects donors and volunteers with people facing homelessness, economic hardship, and youth challenges — because Steve believes faith that stays inside a building isn't really faith at all.

What makes Steve unusual is that he hasn't left engineering behind — he's brought it with him. He continues to serve as a technical co-founder, architecting and building the mobile and web apps that power his ministry and community. The discipline of shipping software — iterating, testing, refining — is the same discipline he applies to his spiritual teaching. It's not a past career. It's part of who he is.

When he's not writing, building, or creating content for the ministry, Steve enjoys playing video games, solving puzzles, and traveling. He's the kind of person who finds the same joy in a well-architected codebase as in a well-crafted sermon — and has spent years learning how the two aren't as different as they seem.

His books, podcasts, apps, and ministry are an open invitation: come as you are, grow one step at a time, and discover what it looks like to live boldly with God.
